San Francisco Pics… Finally

So better late than never right. Life is kind of nuts, okay, extremely, but it won’t last forever.

I don’t have really any pictures from the first first days, I was pretty much working the whole time, it wasn’t until my daughter arrived Wed. night that I did more touristy things. She spent Thursday with the sister of a friend of mine whom she’s met two years ago when we were in San Francisco. They went to a science museum of some type and then out for lunch.

Friday she came to work with me for the morning, then we went to the trade show and after that we went down to Fisherman’s Wharf where she had been dying to try and In and Out Burger. Go figure. It was fine. (You can the pics of it in Flat Copley’s video).

It was a gorgeous HOT sunny day, but that white strip was some kind of weird fog bank coming in right over the Golden Gate Bridge. You can see that little dark part peeking out on the left and that was the top of the bridge.

The sea lions were basking in the heat. The guy right in the middle had staked his claim to I assume the ladies on that dock. Every time another one tried to get on he would run over and push him back in the water.

Then we caught the tram FINALLY (damn tourists clogging it up LOL) where we went to the Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along at the Castro Theatre. Imagine Rocky Horror but with little kids. The theature is GORGEOUS and they gave us all little baggies of things to use during the show and the had a guy playing Disney tunes on the organ while we waited. They even had a costume parade for the little kids and for the adults who dressed up. It was a blast, we all sang our lungs out. I was so jealous that Grease was playing in May. Why don’t we have those?

Then we wandered through the Castro for a bit and had dinner at the Sausage Factory, some nice Italian food and then back to the hotel.

Saturday we headed off to the Asian Art Museum which is by the courthouse. They had some of the terracotta soldiers from China, so it was very cool.

Courthouse

Funny story. They had a variety of these bronze water birds (ducks, geese and swans) that they found when they unearthed the solders. So this older woman is looking at them and goes “Well, there must have been an underground river if there were geese down there.” The guy she was with just looked at her. LOL Um. They aren’t real. They didn’t need a real river.

Asian puppets

Kristen liked this dog statue, he was so homely he was cute.

A Ming vase, just like in the movies.

Love the spout.

Then after the museum we grabbed the bus to the flower conservatory at Golden Gate Park.

Despite a misty start to the day, it was lovely when we were at the park. Lots of people out enjoying the weather.

The Conservatory

It was full of amazing orchids

On Sunday I rented a car and we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge and wanted to go to the redwood forest and check out the ocean. This was called the Stinson Beach Overlook, although it was far from Stinson Beach. It was beautiful though.

Then we drove up the coast to the actual Stinson Beach and had lunch.

The water was coooold.

Then we drove to the Muir woods, just us and a million people. We had to park way far away and walk forever. It was Easter so I guess lots of people out on family outings. It was kind of freaky driving on the narrow windy roads. We’re not used to that here. The forest was amazing though. The trees were HUGE and just fascinating.

Look up, waaaay up.

Standing IN a tree.

Then coming back into the city we stopped at Horseshoe Bay for an amazing pic of the GG Bridge.

That was about it. We left the next day. We were touristed out. I think we’ve seen most of the major tourist attractions in San Francisco now I’ve been there three times and my daughter twice. We had a fun time together and I have to think about the fact that with her heading off to university next fall, our opportunities to travel like this will be more rare.
